Abstract

The objective of this paper is to show tendencies in the evaluation of foreign language competence made by lay persons, that is persons who are not foreign language teachers or linguists. With qualitative interviews and questionnaires it will be tried to reconstruct the lay theories of French and Italian native speakers about the competence of their non-native interlocutors in the field of (written) French / Italian business communication.
