Abstract (English)

The main objectives of the project “Analysis of Carbon Risk Analysis in Financial Markets and Austrian Portfolios” are to
• assess the impact of the finance sector for the transition to a low carbon economy and society in general and the role of divestment in particular
• identify the degree of financial market participants’ awareness regarding their role, their possibilities and their responsibilities to support the transformation
• map existing carbon disclosure approaches and discuss their respective merits and shortfalls
• assess the potential of different strategies as instrument of climate risk management
• evaluate the wider potential impact of these strategies for risks and returns in the financial market
• identify barriers and options to raise the profile of activities in favour of fossil fuel divestment also in Austria
The submitted transdisciplinary project analyses methods and potential impacts of carbon disclosure and divestment activities in Austria, the interaction between policy instruments, social movements and financial markets and existing deficits for consumers and stakeholders in the Austrian capital market.
