Abstract (English)

In March 2017, WU Global Tax Policy Center in cooperation with New Economy Taxation launched a pioneering project into the study of the impact of new, rapidly developing technologies, including Blockchain, Internet of Things, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, robotics, virtual reality, on the tax administrations. Despite the rapid speed of new technologies, the discussions to date have highlighted a significant confusion within public sector over how these technologies operate and their proclaimed disruptive potential.

The project aims to bridge this knowledge gap by conducting a series of multi-disciplinary meetings between government officials, technology specialists and software developments, business community and academics. The themes discussed and questions raised during the meetings will provide the basis for further policy-relevant research by the leading research institutes around the world. The research can then be used to feed into design of domestic policies as well as to feed into the international dialogue.
