Abstract (English)

The role of merger control in ensuring competitive markets and protecting consumers
cannot be overstated. Antitrust in general and merger control in particular
look back on a long and successful history in the United States. In recent years,
the European Union has put increased weight on the development of ecient institutions
and policies in merger control. The proposed project attempts to evaluate
the eciency of merger control empirically, focusing particularly on the influence
of di erent legislative approaches and a comparison of American and European
policies.
